Why are people inconciderate douchebags
So I am here at a starbucks trying to kill time while my mom is at a doctors appointment. I have my laptop a large coffee and wifi, live couldnt be better. Except for the 2 dumbasses sitting next to me. they are rude and immature, making fun of everyone nearby, including myself because they think I cant here them. Why are people like this? Do people really find happiness in making fun of other people? I get the cruelty, I also know there is no reason to be like that. I guess I am a dying breed that thinks people and the world could be a better place. Maybe its just california thats like this, that's the only hope I could have. In the mean time I hope they burn their tongues with their coffee.

where does time fly and can we clip its wings
I've gotten caught up into such a monotonous daily grind, I'm looking back and going how the hell did I let that happen. For that matter hasn't the time machine been invented yet? I would think if it was invented my future self would of already come back and slapped some sense into me, and brought me some lotto numbers.
I'm a person who listens, never like talking about myself... so its a bit ironic that I would even setup a blog to do just that. But I do find this is a good way to have some self reflection on my actions and as well so people can stop pestering me with "how are you doing?"
Speaking of which, "how are you doing?" really has to be the most insincere sentence in the english language. (Gotta love how I transitioned that right? Totally didn't see where that was going right?)
When people ask that, a good portion don't really care, then resent you for actually responding to it. It has been said we are social creatures but with phones, text messages, facebook, e-mails, voice mails, twitter...we do everything possible to avoid vague hintings of a face to face conversation. I miss being able to hold a conversation with a person for more then 5 mins. The next time a peson asks me how i'm doing, I think i will just hand them a buisness card with my blog address on it and save us both time.
Now that I'm off my soapbox....
Been watching new series Joss Whedon's Dollhouse.
This series has so much potiential but im afraid fox will whack it like firefly, which not also both being creations of Whedon, also share the infamous show killer time slot. I will say the supporting cast on this is amazing, to the point its going to overshadow Eliza Dushku.
I want to love her really I do, like her performance as the blind church follower. That was a amazing episode and showed that Eliza can break out of her sterotypical mold. If you ever saw her previous role in the series True Calling you can understand why we want to love her.
That being the exception, for the most part the potential to show her flexibilty in her roles always come off as uncaring sexy vixen assassin dressed up as..theme of the week. They've put so much focus on her character in this series and I dont see any versitality among her various roles.
On the other hand its the complete opposite for the supporting cast, like for example actor Enver Gjokaj who plays the doll Victor. For a complete unknown im blown away how well he can go play russian mob sleeze, romantic lover, to a thick accent horse handler. I really think if they expanded in the 2nd season more on the various other dolls and less on Eliza, that it could become a huge hit and get out of that kiss of death timeslot on friday.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

I can't really believe I let something like this go by me when it first came out. I picked this dvd up today and was blown away. This is a creation of Joss Whedon during the writers strike last year. It was released as a a mini webisode on their website. The best way to describe this would be supervillainy, love, and Singing!
Dr. Horrible(played by Neil Patrick Harris) is a mad scientist who hates the problems of the world so much that he's decided to conquer it. Dr. Horribles various plans are foiled by his nemesis Captain Hammer (played by Nathan Fillion), a super ass who everyone loves.
Dr. Horrible alter-ego, billy, has a crush on Penny (played by Felicia Day) but is too nervous around her to ask her out.
If this show itself wasn't enough Whedon really outdid himself with the dvd. The commentary track from the cast and crew is done entirely in song simply entitled: "Commentary! The Musical".
I really don't want to say more or I feel I would ruin the experience that is Dr. Horrible, but this project just really proves the Whedon is a genius that holds a PHD in horribleness!

The downward spiral
I have to wonder if the world would be better off without mass media scaring the shit out of people. I watch the news on television, online, over the radio... and it seems each outlet is trying to top the other on just how horrible everything is. Never before have I seen a thesaurus used so much to describe the situation we are all in.
I watched as the government used fear, enhanced by media to pass laws people did not fully comprehend or attempt to understand. Through out the 8 years the media created a sense of despair; terrorists were at our doors waiting to kidnap our children and kick puppies.
Its not meant as a way to demean what has happened but in retrospect we signed away certain rights in order to feel safe from the very thing the media convinced us was there.
Now with the economic troubles at hand I am seeing words spun such as catastrophe, calamity, cataclysm, disaster, ruin etc... like people are uneasy as it is, then to hear this only enforces the thoughts; Its a downward spiral effect that will just make things worse. We're presented now with laws promising to make things better, stimulus packages, job creation and everyone is happy for it, they feel this will solve their problems. I just have the same feelings as before that this will be something that will bite us on our asses later on.
Even locally the media spin is just as depressing, if you were to believe everything at face value about Salinas you would think it is a lawless town with shoot outs at all hours, people cowering in their homes out of fear; that the very town itself is under siege with gangs and violence.
The reality is far from the truth. Yes the gangs are there and it is a problem that is increasing, but trust me if it was really that bad the property values vs cost of living would not be some of the highest in the state.
The city recently announced it would be calling in help from the military in the matters of the gangs. Personally I think this is nothing more then a attempt to distract people from the fact the city council has screwed up. Its funny that while the city itself cant make budget, getting ready to pull tax money that was collected for the libraries to stay open; that they suddenly focusing on the threat of the gangs in salinas. Surprise, surprise the media is eating it up, they rather throw big headlines and promos about how many deaths there was this year or military action will be coming, further enforcing the hype.
Its hard now a days to even know if a report is unbiased. Everything is owned by something else. Corporations control what we see and hear. By no means am I saying I have my tin foil hat out waiting for the black copters, but with media priority to make money now, is the stories we should be aware of being heard? Are journalists writing what they see or what will make a good headline?

tis the season
Well thanksgiving is over and I never want to see turkey again til well into oct. However since it is December bring on the tamales! I could live off those forever or until mid January when I would then get sick of them til next year. I did end up buying the pies mostly cause the store was out of ingredients to make it!
How can a store run out of that stuff? suspiciously they had huge tables of pre-made pies waiting to be bought on sale.
I gave in and bought them.
Lazy 1 vs. Sam 0.
Next year I will have my revenge and attempt my fathers southern pecan pie, one slice has the ability to put 4 people in diabetic shock just by looking at it.

So this year im like dirt poor and only presents given out will be for a free hug. This year just doesn't feel like christmas and I'm not so sure why. I've never been one to let the holidays blues get to me, but this year just feels all meh. I will say its during this time I miss my dad the most, this will be the 2nd xmas without him.
Well before I get even more depressed I think I will watch all those sappy xmas movies on the hallmark channel. you know the ones where everything magicly works out within 2 hours. If its on TV then it must be true!

to pie or not to pie
I'm 5 mins away from the store and I have still yet to decide if I should make fresh pies this year for thanksgiving or just give in and buy them already made. Usually every year I've always made them and not to sound boastful but they are damn good. This year however I dunno I just feel like meh, just not into it.
One part of me is saying force myself to make them or else I will just regret it. On the other hand other half is saying be lazy and go the easy route. Come to think about it I didnt make them last year as well... Oh well I'll leave it up to fate if they should be made then I'm sure they will be some cosmic omen to slap me in the face.
